Identifying the parts of the tower 79
Your computer’s tower has six drive bays and can hold
up to six drives. It also has seven adapter card slots and
eight adapter card connectors and can hold up to seven
adapter cards. You can purchase a drive to install in any
empty bay or an adapter card to install in any empty
slot.
You can install Industry Standard Architecture (ISA)
Advanced Technology (AT) adapter cards and Peripheral
Component Interconnect (PCI) adapter cards. You can
install an AT adapter card in any AT adapter card
connector. You can install a PCI adapter card in any PCI
adapter card connector.
Diskette drives use the standard diskette Advanced
Technology (AT) interface. Hard disks use an Integrated
Drive Electronics (IDE)/Advanced Technology
Attachment (ATA) interface. Your computer supports the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard
for AT attachment disk drives.
Bay 1. This bay can hold a 3.5-inch slim drive, such as a
diskette or tape drive.
Bay 2. This bay can hold up to a 5.25-inch half high
drive, such as a diskette, hard disk, tape, or CD-ROM
drive.
Bay 3. This bay can hold up to a 5.25-inch half high
drive, such as a diskette, hard disk, tape, or CD-ROM
drive.
Bay 4. This bay can hold up to a 3.5-inch half high
drive, such as a diskette or tape drive.
Bay 5. This bay can hold a 3.5-inch slim hard disk drive.

Bay 6. This bay can hold a 3.5-inch slim hard disk drive.
(No external access.)
Power supply. Capable of providing at least 145 watts
of power to the tower.
Adapter card slots. Seven openings for adapter
cards.
AT adapter card connector 1 (AT 1). Holds an AT
adapter card.
AT adapter card connector 2 (AT 2). Holds an AT
adapter card.
PCI adapter card connector 1 (PCI 1). Holds a PCI
adapter card.
PCI adapter card connector 2 (PCI 2). Holds a PCI
adapter card. This connector shares a slot with the
AT 3 connector. If you install a card in this connector,
you cannot install a card in connector AT 3.
AT adapter card connector 3 (AT 3). Holds an AT
adapter card. This connector shares a slot with the
PCI 2 connector. If you install a card in this connector,
you cannot install a card in connector PCI 2.
AT adapter card connectors 4 - 6 (AT 4 - 6).
Holds AT adapter cards.
Riser card. Holds the adapter card connectors.
