Explanations regarding battery test with load-dependent battery
tester with printer -VAS 5097 A-:
The load current of the battery tester with printer -VAS 5097 A-
and the minimum voltage differ according to the capacity of the
battery and are indicated on the sticker of the tester.
The battery voltage drops during this test as a result of the high
load on the battery (a high current flows).
If the battery is O.K., the voltage drops only as far as the mini‐
mum voltage.
If the battery is faulty or only has a weak charge, the battery
voltage will drop very rapidly below the specified minimum volt‐
age.
After completion of the test in case of discharged or poorly
discharged batteries, this low voltage is retained for a lengthy
period, the voltage rises only slowly again.
2.7 Check current drain when charging
WARNING
♦ There is a risk of accident when working on the battery.
Observe the warning instructions and safety precautions
⇒ i1.3 nstructions and safety precautions when working
on the battery”, page 4 .
♦ Battery with colourless or bright yellow magic eye must
not be subjected to any test or charge. These batteries
must be replaced.
Information about the state of the discharged battery can be re‐
ceived as fast as possible when charging starts by determining
according to the current drain of the battery, if the battery has to
be replaced or can be fully charged.
Note
With the battery tester with printer -VAS 6161- the current con‐
sumption test must always be carried out if the test result “Car‐
rying out a current consumption test” appears in the display.
By examining the power consumption of a battery during the
charging process, it is possible to assess in a short time wheth‐
er a partially discharged or deeply discharged battery ⇒ d3.2 is‐
charged batteries”, page 22 becomes reusable by recharging.
Test requirements:
♦ When charging the battery, the battery temperature must be
at least +10 ° C.
♦ The charger must be able to deliver at least 30 A charging
current, such as -VAS 5095A- . -VAS 5900-, -VAS 5903-
♦ When charging with the battery charger -VAS 5095A- the
current consumption of the battery must be measured with
a current clamp e.g. -VAS 5051B/7-. Battery charger -VAS
5900- and battery charger -VAS 5903- show the current
consumption at the device. Battery charger -VAS 5900- au‐
tomatically performs the current consumption test guided by
the menu.
– Connect the battery charger and start charging.
