7-16 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
STARTER RELAY INSPECTION
• Remove the front seat and frame cover. ( 6-8)
• Disconnect the battery

lead wire, and starter relay cover

Apply 12 volts to A and B terminals, inspect the continuity be-
tween the terminals, positive and negative.
If continuity is found, the starter relay is in sound condition.

Tester knob indication: Continuity test (

Do not apply a battery voltage more than 5 seconds to
the starter relay as it may overheat and cause damage to
the relay coil.
• Check the coil for “open”, “ground” and ohmic resistance. The
coil is in good condition if the resistance is as follows.

Starter relay resistance: 3 – 5

• Disconnect the starter motor lead wire 2, and battery lead
wire 3 and starter relay coupler 4 from the starter relay.
• Remove the starter relay.
