9.2 Installing a replacement turbocharger
To enable you to quickly put an engine back into operation after a turbocharger has sus-
tained damage, ABB Turbo Systems recommends having a replacement turbocharger or ap-
propriate spare parts available in storage (see chapter Storage of new turbochargers and
spare parts). The defective turbocharger can be removed and the replacement turbocharger
installed within a short period of time.
u Remove defective turbocharger (see chapter Removing and Installing →8).
u Install replacement turbocharger (see chapter Removing and Installing →8).
u Send the defective turbocharger to an ABB Turbocharging Service Station for inspection
and repair.
9.3 Installing a replacement cartridge group
WARNING
Incorrect handling of a cartridge group
Incorrect handling of a cartridge group can damage the turbocharger and
cause injuries to persons.
u Have repairs to the cartridge group carried out by an ABB Turbocharging
Service Station only.
To enable you to quickly put an engine back into operation after a turbocharger has sus-
tained damage, ABB Turbo Systems recommends having a replacement cartridge group
available in storage (see chapter Storage of new turbochargers and spare parts). The defect-
ive cartridge group can be removed and the replacement cartridge group installed within a
short period of time. A replacement cartridge group is ready for use immediately and in-
cludes the complete bearing casing with bearing and a balanced rotor.
The repair of a cartridge group requires special tools and the expertise of an ABB Turbochar-
ging Service Station. The rotating parts turn very fast and are very sensitive to unbalance.
u Remove defective cartridge group (see chapter Dismantling and fitting →56).
u Install replacement cartridge group (see chapter Dismantling and fitting →56).
u Send the defective cartridge group to an ABB Turbocharging Service Station for inspec-
tion and repair.
