10.22 Check the drive gain
Excessive or erratic drive gain may indicate any of a variety of process conditions or sensor
problems.
To know whether your drive gain is excessive or erratic, you must collect drive gain data
during the problem condition and compare it to drive gain data from a period of normal
operation.
Excessive (saturated) drive gain
Possible causes and recommended actions for excessive (saturated)
drive gain

Two-phase flow Check for two-phase flow. See Section 10.21.
Pipeline not completely full Correct process conditions so that the pipeline is full.
Deposition on the vibrating ele-
ment or inner walls of the de-
vice
Check for deposition and clean the device if necessary.
Cavitation or flashing; settling
of two-phase or three-phase
fluids
Increase the inlet or back pressure at the sensor.
If a pump is located upstream from the sensor, increase the
distance between the pump and sensor.
The sensor may need to be reoriented or repositioned. Con-
sult the installation manual for your sensor.
Drive board or module failure Contact Micro Motion.
Vibrating element not free to
vibrate
Ensure that the vibrating element is free to vibrate.
Open drive coil Contact Micro Motion.
Incorrect sensor characteriza-
tion
Verify the characterization or calibration parameters.
Erratic drive gain
Possible causes and recommended actions for erratic drive gainTable 10-7:

Two-phase flow Check for two-phase flow. See Section 10.21.
Foreign material caught on vi-
brating element or in sensor
Ensure that the vibrating element is free to vibrate.
