Configuring MD VPN
This section describes how to configure MD VPN.
Configuration prerequisites
Before you configure MD VPN, complete the following tasks:
Configure a unicast routing protocol on the public network.
Configure MPLS L3VPN on the public network.
Configure PIM-DM, PIM-SM, BIDIR-PIM, or PIM-SSM on the public network.
Determine the VPN instance names and RDs.
Determine the default-groups.
Determine the source address for establishing BGP peers.
Determine the data-group range and the MDT switchover criteria.
Determine the data-delay period.
Determine the data-holddown period.
Enabling IP multicast routing for a VPN instance
Before you configure any MD VPN functionality for a VPN instance, you must create a VPN instance
and enable IP multicast routing for the VPN instance.
Perform this task on PE devices.
To enable IP multicast routing for a VPN instance:
1. Enter system view.
system-view

2. Create a VPN instance and
enter its view.
ip vpn-instance
vpn-instance-name
By default, no VPN instances
exist.

3. Configure an RD for the VPN
instance.

configured with an RD.

4. Return to system view.

instance.
• Enable IPv4 multicast
routing and enter MRIB view
of the VPN instance:

• Enable IPv6 multicast
routing and enter IPv6 MRIB
view of the VPN instance:
vpn-instance
vpn-instance-name
By default, IP multicast routing is
disabled in a VPN instance.
