5.3 Drive
For details about drive slot numbers, see 2.9 Drive Slot Numbers and Indicators.
To ensure drive availability, the storage duration of a drive cannot exceed six months before
use.
If drives of different models are installed in one server and the customer has no special
requirements, observe the following rules:
l Use the Huawei Server Compatibility Checker to query the types of supported drives.
l A RAID array supports only drives of the same model. It is recommended that drives in
one server be of the same type and capacity, but SAS and SATA drives can be installed
in the same server.
l If drives of different capacities and the same type are to be installed in one server, install
small-capacity drives first and then large-capacity drives.
5.3.1 Removing a SAS/SATA Drive
Step 1 Wear an ESD wrist strap. For details, see 12 Preventing Electrostatic Discharge.
NOTE
l You do not need to power off the server when removing a drive.
l Before removing a drive, determine its location to prevent misoperations.
Step 2 If the server is equipped with a front bezel, remove the bezel before removing a front drive.
For details, see 5.2.1 Removing the Front Bezel.
Step 3 If the drive is in the built-in drive module, perform the following operations:
NOTICE
If the chassis cover is away for too long while the server is powered on, some components
will become overheated. Install the chassis cover within 3 minutes.
1. Remove the chassis cover. For details, see 3.4 Removing the Chassis Cover.
2. Open the handles of the built-in drive module. See Figure 5-5.
