9 Inspection and maintenance
9.1 General overview of service and
maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance of the heating system
reduces energy consumption and ensures a long life and smooth
operation.
Tests during annual inspection
General condition of the heating system, visual inspection of
connections and pipes.
Condensate drain, flue gas temperature and flue gas temper-
ature sensors.
Burner operation and burner settings.
Maintenance work to be carried out annually
Cleaning the burner components, the combustion chamber
and the heating surfaces.
Cleaning the heat exchanger
External cleaning of the unit cladding.
Replacement of the wearing parts if required).
Documentation of the maintenance work in the operating
manual.
Before recommissioning the ROTEX GW after maintenance
work the conditions for commissioning as per chapter 5.1
must be checked and fulfilled.
9.2 Service and maintenance tasks
For inspection and maintenance it is necessary to remove the
front cladding on the unit.
Ɣ Create access to the unit internals (see chapter 4.9.3).
Ɣ Cleaning silencer hood and outside of the unit
Clean only using soft cloths and a mild cleaning solution.
Do not use cleaners containing aggressive solvents.
9.2.1 Checking the connections and pipes
Ɣ Inspect all (flue) gas and water carrying components and
connections for leakages and system integrity. If damaged,
determine the cause and replace the damaged parts.
Ɣ Check all components of the flue system for leakage and
damage. Repair damaged parts or replace them.
Ɣ Check all electrical components, connections and pipes.
Repair damaged parts.
9.2.2 Checking and cleaning the condensate drain.
Have the inspection and maintenance carried out by
authorised and trained heating engineers once a year
and, if possible, before the heating period. This will
avoid malfunctions during the heating period.
ROTEX recommends an inspection and maintenance
contract to ensure regular inspection and maintenance.
WARNING!
Live parts can cause an electric shock on contact and
cause fatal burns and injuries.
Ɣ Before beginning maintenance work, disconnect
the ROTEX GSU from the power supply ROTEX
GW (switch off fuse, main switch) and secure
against unintentional restart.
WARNING!
Danger of burning - hot surfaces.
Ɣ Let the burner cool down for a reasonably long
time before maintenance and service work.
Ɣ Wear protective gloves.
WARNING!
Inappropriate work on power or gas lines can
endanger life and health and hinder the operation of
the ROTEX GW.
Ɣ Troubleshooting of power and gas lines on the
ROTEX GW may only be carried out by heating
technicians authorised and trained by the gas or
power supply company.
DANGER OF CHEMICAL BURNS!
The condensate coming from the burner contains acid
and can cause injury if it comes into contact with the
eyes or the skin.
Ɣ Wear protective clothing (safety glasses, rubber
gloves) when working on the condensate drain.
Ɣ If your skin comes in contact with anything, wash
the affected area immediately with tap water.
Ɣ If the chemicals come in contact with eyes,
immediately wash with tap water and consult an
ophthalmologist.
The connection and leakage line
of the condensate drain must be
free from impurities.
Ɣ Open the condensate drain
(connection and drain
conduit).
Ɣ Check that the condensate
drain is free from blockages
and clean if necessary.
Ɣ Remove the condensate
siphon, open it, drain and
clean and then fill with 0.2 l of
water.
