Hydraulic System Start--up
NOTE: When initiallystarting thehydraulic systemwith
neworrebuiltcomponentssuchasmotors,pumpsorlift
cylinders, it is important that this start--up procedure be
used. This procedure reduces the chance of damaging
the system or its components from not purging the sys-
tem of air.
1. After the hydraulic system components have been
properly installedand if thetractionpumpwasrebuiltor
replaced, make sure t raction pump h ousing is at least
half full of clean hydraulic oil.
2. Makesureallhydraulicconnectionsandlinesarese-
cured tightly.
3. Make sure hydraulic reservoir is full. Add correct oil
ifnecessary.Drain, flushand refillhydraulic systemres-
ervoir and change oil filter if component failure was se-
vere or system is contaminated.
4. Afterrepairs,checkcontrollinkageforproperadjust-
ment, binding or broken parts.
5. Make sure functional control lever is in neutral.
6. Disconnect both spark plug wires from spark plugs
to prevent the engine from starting.
7. Turn ignition key switch and engage starter for ten
(10)secondstoprimepump.Returnignitionswitchtooff
and wait one (1) minute to allow starter to cool. Repeat
step a second time.
8. Reconnect spark plug wires to spark p lugs.
9. Make sure functional control lever is in neutral and
cuttingunitswitch isoff.Start engineandrun atlow idle
speed. The charge pump should pick up oil and fill the
hydraulic system. If there is no indication of fill in thirty
(30)seconds,stop theengine anddeterminethecause.
CAUTION
Be careful when operating the cutting unit reels.
Contact with the reel or other moving parts can
result in personal injury.
10.After the hydraulicsystem starts toshowsigns off ill,
accomplish the following:
A. Ifareelmotorwasreplacedorrebuilt,runthecut-
ting units at the minimum speed setting (under no
load) for ten (10) minutes in both directions.
B. If the gear pump was replaced or rebuilt, run the
cuttingunitsatthe minimumspeed setting(underno
load) for ten (10) minutes.
C. Ifthe pistonpumpor awheelmotor wasreplaced
or rebuilt, run the traction unit so the wheels turn
slowly for ten (10) minutes.
11.Operate the traction unit and cutting units by gradu -
allyincreasing theirwork loadto fullover aten(10)min-
ute period.
12.Stop the machine. Check reservoir and fill if neces-
sary. Checkhydrauliccomponents forleaks andtighten
any loose connections.
