Reverse gear MGX
Oil level, checking and topping up
Check the oil level when the reverse gear has reached
operating temperature, with the engine idling and the
control lever in neutral.
WARNING!
Working with or approaching a running engine is a
safety risk. Watch out for rotating components and hot
surfaces.
1 Remove the dipstick (1) wipe it off and put it back
into the reverse gear.
2 Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level.
The correct oil level is between the MAX and MIN
marks..
3 Top up with oil as required through the filler opening
(2) on the top of the reverse gear, refer to section
Technical Data, page 143 for oil grade and volume.
IMPORTANT:
Never over-fill the reverse gear. The oil level must
always be within the recommended range.
Transmission oil and filter
1 Remove the dipstick. Connect a hose from the oil
scavenging pump (optional) to the plug (3).
2 Suck the oil up and put the dipstick back.
3 Put a vessel beneath the filter (4) to avoid oil
spillage.
4 Unscrew the oil filter with a extractor.
5 Clean the filter mating surface on the filter bracket.
6 Lubricate the seal on the new filter with engine oil.
7 Screw the filter on by hand until the rubber seal just
touches the mating surface on the filter bracket.
Then tighten a further 3/4 turn.
8 Fill up with oil to the correct level through the filler
opening (2), please refer to Technical
Data, page 143 for oil grade and volume.
IMPORTANT:
Never over-fill the reverse gear. The oil level must
always be within the recommended range.
9 Start the engine and run until the reverse gear has
reached operating temperature.
10 Check the oil level. Top up as needed.
