Construction of PCP/ESP system
ABB industrial drive modules with the pump control program can be used to control
the following pump types:
• Progressive cavity pump (PCP)
• Electric submersible pump (ESP)
Progressive cavity pump (PCP)
The PCP system consists of a surface drive, a drive
string and a down hole PC pump. The PC pump
comprises of a single helical-shaped rotor that turns
inside a double helical elastomer-lined stator. The
stator is attached to the production tubing string and
remains stationary during pumping.
In most cases the rotor is attached to a sucker rod
string which is suspended and rotated by the surface
drive.
