5. Remove the two nuts that secure the tank straps.
6. Pull the straps over the tank. Slide the gas tank
out of the tank support.
NOTE: The side panel on the right side of the fuel tank
may have to be loosened to ease the removal of the
fuel tank.
TROUBLESHOOTING
FUEL STARVATION/LEAN MIXTURE
Symptoms: Hard start or no start, bog, backfire,
popping through intake / exhaust, hesitation,
detonation, low power, spark plug erosion, engine
runs hot, surging, high idle, idle speed erratic.
GNo fuel in tank
GRestricted tank vent, or routed
improperly
GFuel lines or fuel valve restricted
GFuel filter plugged
GCarburetor vent line(s) restricted
GPlugged or restricted inlet needle and
seat screen or inlet passage
GClogged jets or passages
GFloat stuck, holding inlet needle closed
or inlet needle stuck
GFloat level too low
GFuel pump inoperative
GAir leak at impulse line
GRestricted impulse line (kinked,
pinched)
GIntake air leak (throttle shaft, intake
ducts, airbox or air cleaner cover)
GRuptured vacuum slide diaphragm,
Vacuum slide stuck closed or sticky
GImproper spring
GJet needle position incorrect
GIncorrect pilot screw adjustment
RICH MIXTURE
Symptoms: Fouls spark plugs, black, sooty exhaust
smoke, rough idle, poor fuel economy, engine runs
rough/ misses, poor performance, bog, engine loads
up, backfire.
GAir intake restricted (inspect intake
duct)
GAir filter dirty/plugged
GChoke plunger sticking, incorrectly
adjusted choke
GChoke cable binding or improperly
routed
GIncorrect pilot air/fuel screw
adjustment
GFaulty inlet needle and seat
GFaulty inlet needle seat O-Ring
GFloat level too high
GPoor fuel quality (old fuel)
GLoose jets
GWorn jet needle/needle jet or other
carburetor parts
GDirty carburetor (air bleed passages or
jets)
GWeak or damaged vacuum piston
return spring
GFouled spark plug
POOR IDLE
Idle Too High
GIdle adjusted improperly/idle mixture
screw damaged
GSticky vacuum slide
GThrottle cable sticking, improperly
adjusted, routed incorrectly
GChoke cable sticking, improperly
adjusted, routed incorrectly
GPlugged or restricted idle jet
Idle Too Low
GChok
e cable bending or incorrectly
adjusted
GIdle speed set incorrectly
GIdle mixture screw misadjusted or
damaged
GBelt dragging
GIgnition timing incorrect
