5. Charge t he disc harged batter y wit h the
jumper cabl e c onnected for approx i-
mately 5 minutes . At thi s t ime, r un the
engine i n the vehic le w ith the boost er
batter y at about 2000 rpm with t he ac-
celer ator pedal light ly depres sed.
6. Star t y our engi ne in the normal way.
After st arting, run i t at about 2000 r pm
for sever al mi nutes wi th t he ac celer ator
pedal lightl y depres sed.
7. Caref ully dis connec t the cables in the
exact rever se or der: the negati ve c able
and then the positiv e cable.
8. Caref ully dis pose of the bat tery c over
clot hs—they may now contain s ulfur ic
acid.
9. If r emoved, repl ace all the batt ery v ent
plugs.
If the caus e of your batter y dis chargi ng is
not apparent (for example, lights lef t on),
you s hould hav e i t c hecked at your Toyota
dealer.
If the fi rst star t attempt is not success-
ful...
Check t hat the c lamp on the jumper
cables are t ight. Rechar ge the disc harged
batter y with the jumper cables c onnected
for sev eral minutes and rest art your en-
gine in the normal way.
If the second attempt i s not succes sful ,
the batt ery may be deplet ed. Have it c h-
ecked at your Toyota dealer.
If your engi ne stalls whi le driv ing...
1. Reduce y our s peed gradual ly, keeping
a str aight l ine. Mov e caut iously off the
road to a safe place.
2. Turn on your emergency f lasher s.
3. Try st arti ng the engine again.
If t he engine will not star t, s ee “I f your
vehic le will not s tart” .
CAUTION
If the engine is not r unning, t he pow-
er assist for the brakes and st eering
will not wor k so st eering and braki ng
will be much harder than usual.
