1. Check the ar ea around the vehicl e be-
fore enter ing it.
2. Adjus t seat pos ition, seat back angle,
head rest raint height and st eering
wheel angle.
3. Adjus t the inside and outside rear v iew
mirrors.
4. Lock t he dr iver’s door and close the
passenger s’ door to release the acc el-
erator pedal l ock.
5. Fast en seat belts .
1. Apply t he parking brake fi rmly.
2. Turn off unnec essar y l ights and ac ces-
sories.
3. Manual transmi ssion: Pres s t he clut ch
pedal to t he floor and shift the tr ans-
miss ion into neutr al. Hold the c lutc h
pedal to the fl oor until the engi ne is
star ted.
Automatic transmission: Put the s hift
lever in “P”. If you need t o restar t the
engine while the vehi cle is mov ing, put
the shift l ever in “N” . A star ter safet y
devic e wil l prev ent the star ter f rom op-
erati ng if t he shif t l ever i s in any driv e
posit ion.
4. Automat ic tr ansmission onl y: De-
press the brake pedal and hold i t t o
the floor unt il dri ving off.
Before st arti ng the engine, be sur e to fol-
low the inst ruct ions in “(a) Bef ore crank-
ing”.
Normal star ting procedure
With your foot off the ac celer ator pedal,
crank the engine by t urning the key to
“START”. Release it when t he engine
starts.
Engine shoul d be warmed up by dr ivi ng,
not in idle. For warming up, drive with
smoot hly turni ng engine unti l engine cool-
ant temperatur e is withi n normal range.
If the engine stalls...
Simply rest art it, using the correct proce-
dure given in normal st arti ng.
If the engine will not start...
See “If your vehic le wil l not star t” i n Sec-
tion 4.
NOTICE
z Do not crank for more than 30 se-
conds at a time. Thi s m ay overheat
the start er and wiring systems.
z Do not race a col d engine.
z If t he engine becomes difficul t to
start or stalls f requentl y, have the
engine checked immediately.
