If towing is necessary, we recommend
you have it done by your Toyota dealer
or a commercial tow truck service.
Proper equipment will help ens ure that
your v ehicl e is not damaged whi le being
towed. Commerc ial operator s are generally
aware of the stat e/prov inci al and loc al
laws pertai ning to towing.
Your v ehicl e can be damaged i f it i s
towed inc orrec tly. Although mos t operator s
know the c orr ect proc edure, i t i s poss ible
to make a mistak e. To av oid damage to
your vehi cle, mak e sure the foll owing pre-
cauti ons are obs erved. If nec essar y, show

TOWING PRECAUTIONS:
Use a safety chain system for all towing,
and abide by t he s tate/ provi ncial and local
laws. The wheel s and ax le on t he gr ound
must be in good condi tion. If they ar e
damaged, use a towing dolly.

use a towi ng dol ly, release the par king
brake and put t he tr ansmis sion in neu-
tral.

Use a t owing dolly under the rear
wheels.
NOTICE
Never tow a vehicle wit h an automatic
transmission from the front with the
rear wheel s on the gr ound, as thi s
may cause serious damage t o the
transmi ssion.
From rear—Pl ace the engine s witc h in t he
“ACC” posi tion.
NOTICE
z When l ift ing wheel s, take care to
ensure adequat e ground cl earance
for towing at t he opposit e end of
the rai sed vehicle. Other wise, the
bumper and/or underbody of t he
towed vehicle will be damaged dur-
ing towing.
z Do not tow with the key removed or
in the “LOCK” posi tion, as t he
steeri ng lock mechanism i s not
strong enough t o hold the fr ont
wheels straight whil e towing.
(c) Towing with sling type truck
NOTICE
Do not tow with sli ng type tr uck, ei-
ther fr om the front or rear. This may
cause body damage.
