If you cannot shift the shift lever out
of “P” position to other positions even
though the brake pedal is depressed,
use the shi ft lock overri de butt on as
follows:
1. Tur n the engine swi tch to t he
“LOCK” posi tion. Make sure t he
parking brake is applied.
2. Push the shift l ock overr ide butt on.
You can shif t out of the “P” posit ion
only while pushing the button.
3. Shift i nto the “N” positi on.
4. Star t the engi ne. For your saf ety,
keep the brake pedal depressed.
Be sure to have the system checked by
your Toyot a dealer as soon as poss ible.

OPENING THE DOOR FOR EMERGENCY
ESCAPE
From inside— Pull open the cover, un-
lock the lock knob (pul l t he knob left-
ward.) , and pull the handle t oward you.
From outsi de—Pull up t he emergency
door handle. If it is locked, insert the
key int o the keyhol e and tur n th e key
clockwise.
