Motor temperature measurement through the standard I/O
This section describes the temperature measurement of one motor when the drive
I/O terminals are used as the connection interface.
Motor temperature can be measured using Pt100 or PTC sensors connected to
analog input and output.
Warning! According to IEC 60664, the connection of the motor
temperature sensor requires double or reinforced insulation between
motor live parts and the sensor. Reinforced insulation entails a clearance
and creepage distance of 8 mm (0.3 in) (400/500 V AC equipment).
If the assembly does not fulfill the requirement, the I/O board terminals must be
protected against contact and they may not be connected to other equipment, or the
temperature sensor must be isolated from the I/O terminals.
Temperature monitoring using Pt100 sensors
1…3 Pt100 sensors can be connected in series to an analog input and an analog
output.
The analog output feeds a constant excitation current of 9.1 mA through the sensor.
The sensor resistance increases as the motor temperature rises, as does the voltage
over the sensor. The temperature measurement function reads the voltage through
the analog input and converts it into degrees Celsius.
It is possible to adjust the motor temperature supervision limits and select how the
drive reacts when overtemperature is detected.
