21 Downtime
21.1 Preparations Before Long Period of Downtime
Protect the equipment from corrosion and storage damage if downtime is expected to last
three months or longer. If environment is, for example, corrosive or dusty, extra protection
is necessary.
n Wash the equipment thoroughly and wipe it dry. Use compressed air to blow any col-
lections of water out of cavities and pockets.
n Protect from rain, snow, and strong sunshine. Keep regulated temperature and ventila-
tion. Recommended storage environments must maintain a temperature of 10-20 ºC
(50–68 ºF) and maximum 20–50% humidity. Storage site must be free from severe vi-
bration to avoid spot damage to the equipment.
n Apply corrosion inhibitor (For example, Tectyl 506) to machined surfaces.
n Apply touch-up paint to any scratches and damage on painted areas.
n Cover all equipment with plastic sheet.
n Clean old lubricant grease from lubrication points to prevent coke formation. Apply lu-
bricant grease into the lubrication nipples. Apply lubricant grease with a brush to slid-
ing surfaces and splines where it occurs. Use the correct lubricant grease for each
point.
n Observe the strictest cleanliness when disassembling hydraulic, compressed air, and
water flushing hoses. Immediately plug all hoses, nipples and hydraulic oil pipes, or
seal and protect them from dirt in some other suitable way.
n Mark hoses, pipes, and other connections to make reassembly easier and prevent
mix-ups.
n Hoses and rubber parts must be packed in air-tight plastic to reduce aging and drying.
Make sure that the components are dry before packing.
n Fill fuel tanks and oil tanks.
21.1.1 Preparing Electrical System for Long Time Storage
If the temperature falls below freezing point then the battery must be stored indoors.
n
Disconnect the battery terminal connections.
n
Clean and grease battery terminal connections.
21.1.2 Preparing Feed for Long-Term Storage
The feed must be stored in a dry and clean environment.
1.
Clean the feed thoroughly.
2.
Lubricate the feed.
3.
Protect unpainted surfaces with rust inhibitor.
4.
Store the feed in a dry and clean environment.
21.1.3 Preparing Rock Drill for Long Time Storage
1.
Remove the rock drill.
