8. Lift the cover from the housing and remove the
thermostat.
NOTICE
Thermostat has a pop-off relief to allow the bypass
system to operate until thermostat opens.
9. Install a new thermostat.
10.Reverse this procedure for installation. Torque
thermostat cover bolts to specification.
TORQUE
Thermostat Cover Bolts:
7 ft-lbs (10 Nm)
11. Be sure to properly fill and bleed cooling system as
outlined in this chapter.
WATER PUMP SERVICE
WARNING
Ensure the engine has cooled down and no pressure is
present in the cooling system. Escaping coolant can
cause severe injury or burns.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Service page
2.62.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Coolant Service
page 3.80.
3. Remove the right rear wheel. Refer to Wheel Service
page 2.52.
4. Remove the coolant hoses attached to the water
pump.
5. Remove the three fasteners securing the water pump
to the engine, and remove the water pump and water
pump seal.
NOTICE
If the water pump does not readily remove, use a
twisting and rocking motion to remove from the engine.
