Generaltroubleshooting
Before calling a service technician, please check this
chapter for a possible cause of the problem and some
solutions you can try.
Black boxon-screen
• TheclosedcaptionfeatureissettooneoftheText
modes(T1,T2,T3,orT4).Settheclosedcaptionfeature
to Off(_-,-ypage 42).
TV stops responding to controls
• If the TVstops responding to the controls on the remote
control or TVcontrol panel and you cannot turn off the
TV,press and hold thePOWERbutton on the TV control
panelfor 5 or more seconds to reset theTV.
Other problems
• If your TV's problem is not addressed in this
Troubleshooting section or the recommended solution
has not worked, use the Reset Factory Defaults
procedure (_-_-ypage 53).
TV will not turn on
• Makesure the power cord is plugged in, and then press
PO_ER,
• The remote control batteries may be dead. Replacethe
batteries or try the control panel buttons.
Picture problems
General picture problems
• Check the antenna/cableconnections (_-_-yChapter2).
• Press _D on the remote control or the TV and select a
valid video input source (_-,ypage 41). If no device is
connected to a particular input on the TV, no picture will
display when you select that particular input source. For
deviceconnection details, seeChapter 2.
• Antennareception may be poor. Use a highly directional
outdoor antenna (if applicable).
• Thestation may havebroadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
• Adjust the picture qualities (u-,ypage 57).
Video Input Selection problems
• If the Input Selectionwindowdoes not appear when you
press_D on the remote control or the TVcontrol panel,
press _D asecond time, which will change to the next
video input source and display the Input Selection
window.
Cannot view external signals or channel 3 or 4
• If you cannot view signals from external devices
connectedto VIDEO,ColorStreamHD, HDMI 1, HDMI 2,
HDMI 3, HDMI 4, PCor from channels3 or 4, makesure
the Input Lock is set to Off (_-_-page 45).
Poor color or no color
• Thestation may havebroadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
• Check the AV Input mode when you use Video or
ColorStream HD(_-_-page 36).
• Adjust the Tint and/or Color(_-_-page57).
Poor composite picture
• IftheTVisconnectedto anexternalAN device(e.g.DVD
player,videogamesystem,set-topbox,etc.)tryusinga
ColorStreamorHDMIvideoconnectioninstead.
Picture and sound are out of sync
• Aswithallproductsthatcontainadigitaldisplay,in rare
instances,whenviewingcertaincontent(e.g.television
broadcasts,videogames,DVDs),youmaynoticethat
thesoundandpictureareslightlyoutof sync.This
phenomenoncanbecausedbyvariousfactors
including,withoutlimitation,videoprocessingwithinthe
TV,videoprocessinginanattachedgamingsystem,and
videoprocessingordifferentcompressionratesusedby
broadcastersintheirprogramming.Youmaywantto try
oneor moreof thefollowingsuggestions,whichmay
helpto reducetheeffectofthisphenomenon:
- If theTVisconnectedto anAN receiverthathasa
programmableaudiodelayfeature,usethisfeature
tohelpsynchronizethesoundto thepicture.
- If younoticethis phenomenononlyoncertainTV
channels,pleasecontactyour localbroadcast,cable,
orsatelliteproviderto informthemof this issue.
Sound problems
• Check the antenna/cable connections (_-_ Chapter 2).
• Thestation may havebroadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
• Thesound may be muted. Press VOLUME.
• If you hear nosound, try setting the MTS feature to
Stereo mode (_-_-_page 62).
• If you are not receiving a second audio program from a
known SAPsource, makesure the MTS feature is set to
SAPmode (_-_-_-page 62).
• If you hearaudio that seems "incorrect" for the program
you arewatching (such as music or aforeign language),
the SAPmode may beon. Setthe MTS feature toStereo
mode (_-,_page 62).
• If you connect a PCusing either the PC INterminal or an
HDMI terminal, makesure that the PC Audiosetting is
properly set (_-_-_-page50).
Remote
control problems
Makesure the remote control is setto the correct device
mode (_-_-_-page 28).
Removeall obstructions between the remote control and
the TV.
Theremote control batteries may be dead. Replacethe
batteries (_-_-_-page23).
Your TV remote control may not operate certainfeatures
on your external device. Referto the owner's manual for
your other device to determine its available features. If
your TV remote control does not operate a specific
feature onanother device, usethe remote control that
came with the device (_-_-pages 29-31).
If the TVstill does not act as expected, use the Reset
Factory Defaults procedure (_-_-_-page53).
