Configuring System and Banner Information
In this example, an administrator configures the following system
information:
• System name: PC8024
• System contact: Jane Doe
• System location: RTP100
• Asset tag: 006429
The administrator then configures the MOTD banner to alert other switch
administrators of the connected topology.
To configure the switch:

Configure the hosts name.
console#configure
console(config)#hostname PC8024

Configure the contact, location, and asset tag. Notice that the prompt
changed to the host name.
PC8024(config)#snmp-server contact “Jane Doe”
PC8024(config)#snmp-server location RTP100
PC8024(config)#asset-tag 006429

Configure the message that displays when a user connects to the switch.
PC8024(config)#banner motd “This switch connects
users in cubicles C121-C139.”
PC8024(config)#exit

View system information to verify the configuration.
PC8024#show system
