6.12 Connecting the Cables
To avoid working on gas-filled pole columns, we recommend that
the cables (1) be connected to the circuit breaker's high voltage ter-
minal pads (2) before the pole columns are filled with gas.
The ends of the cables facing away from the circuit breaker (1a)
must not be connected yet.
Cable ends (1a) must not be in contact with earth potential (poten-
tial to ground) simultaneously during later commissioning tests. The
resulting auxiliary circuit would affect the test results.
• Brush the contact surfaces of high voltage terminal pads (2) and
cable clamp (1) until all oxide film has been removed.
• Lubricate contact surfaces on both sides in accordance with
lubrication specification L3.
• Bolt high voltage terminal pads and cable clamp together.
• Keep cable end (1a) isolated from earth potential (potential to
ground).
Improper connection of cables can pose a threat to personnel
and system safety.
The individual responsible for safety must give approval for con-
necting the cables.
When connecting the cables after filling the circuit breaker to
rated pressure, there is the danger that insulators will burst if
they have been damaged.
Therefore:
- The cables may only be connected by qualified personnel
using extreme caution.
