12. VARIABLE MOWING SYSTEM/

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap (P. 3 - 8).
2. Remove the Clip Director knob.
a. To release the knob, insert a 2 mm Allen wrench
through the small hole in the green lower shutter lock
and apply downward pressure to the wrench to release
the locking tab inside the gray upper shutter lock. The
green plastic lock may need to be pushed in or pulled
out slightly to align the locking tab with the small hole.
b. While applying pressure to the Allen wrench, pull the
gray upper shutter lock, lever spring, and green lower
shutter lock away from the metal shutter lever arm.
3. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position and tilt the mower
on its right side so that the air filter is pointing up.
4. PKA/VKA/VLA types:
Wear a pair of thick leather gloves and hold the blades
with your hand to prevent the blades from turning, and
then remove the center 3/8-24 x 1 special bolt. Pull the
blades and blade holder off as an assembly from the
crankshaft. Remove the Woodruff key from the slot in the
crankshaft.
