14. BLADE CONTROL OPERATION CHECK
FLYWHEEL BRAKE MODELS
With the engine running, release the blade control lever; the
engine should stop quickly (under 3 seconds).
See page 2-12
for troubleshooting an engine that does not
stop in under 3 seconds.
ROTO-STOP
®
Start the engine outdoors. Move the throttle to the FAST
position . Press and hold the yellow Roto-Stop
®
button ,
and then pull the blade control lever against the handlebar.
The blades should engage when you pull the lever to the
handlebar, and the blades should stop quickly when you
release the lever.
15. FLYWHEEL BRAKE
INSPECTION
To inspect the flywheel brake lining thickness:
1. Remove the fan cover/fuel tank (P. 8-15
).
2. Measure the thickness of the brake lining.
3. If the brake shoe lining thickness is less than the service
limit, replace the brake assembly.
DANGER
The mower blades will rotate during this procedure.
Rotating blades will amputate fingers, hands, and
other extremities if contacted.
Do not allow your hands or feet to come into contact
with the rotating blades while preforming this
procedure.
