Shift Actuator
The shift actuator is used to shift the gearcase into forward, neutral, and reverse gears. The actuator is mounted on the bottom
of the driveshaft housing so that it protrudes into the gearcase. When it receives a signal from the PCM, it acts directly on the
lower shift shaft. Hall‑effect position sensors built into the shift actuator assembly receive a reference voltage (5.0 volts) from
the PCM, and their signals confirm the position of the actuator shaft. The PCM uses an H‑bridge to drive the motor inside the
actuator one direction or the other.
