Ventilationrequirements
Toprovideadequateairow:
•Ensurethatequipmentismountedinacompartmentof
suitablesize.
•Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.
•Ensureadequateseparationofequipment.
Mountingsurfacerequirements
Ensureunitsareadequatelysupportedonasecuresurface.Do
NOTmountunitsorcutholesinplaceswhichmaydamagethe
structureofthevessel.
Cableroutingrequirements
Ensuretheunitismountedinalocationwhichallowsproper
routingandconnectionofcables:
•Minimumcablebendradiusof100mm(3.94in)isrequired
unlessotherwisestated.
•Usecablesupportstopreventstressonconnectors.
Electricalinterference
Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfromdevicesthat
maycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradio
transmitters/receivers.
GPSlocationrequirements
Inadditiontogeneralguidelinesconcerningthelocationof
marineelectronics,thereareanumberofenvironmentalfactors
toconsiderwheninstallingequipmentwithaninternalGPS
antenna.
Mountinglocation
•AboveDecksmounting:
Itisrecommendedthatthedisplayismountedabovedecks
asthisprovidesoptimalGPSperformance.
•BelowDecksmounting:
GPSperformancemaybelesseffectivewhenmountedbelow
decks.
Vesselconstruction
TheconstructionofyourvesselcanhaveanimpactonGPS
performance.Forexample,theproximityofheavystructures
suchasastructuralbulkhead,ortheinterioroflargervessels
mayresultinareducedGPSsignal.Beforelocatingequipment
withaninternalGPSantennabelowdecks,seekprofessional
assistance.
Prevailingconditions
TheweatherandlocationofthevesselcanaffecttheGPS
performance.Typicallycalmclearconditionsprovideforamore
accurateGPSx.Vesselsatextremenortherlyorsoutherly
latitudesmayalsoreceiveaweakerGPSsignal.GPSantenna
mountedbelowdeckswillbemoresusceptibletoperformance
issuesrelatedtotheprevailingconditions.
Compasssafedistance
Topreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagnetic
compasses,ensureanadequatedistanceismaintainedfrom
thedisplay.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationforthedisplayyoushouldaim
tomaintainthemaximumpossibledistancebetweenthedisplay
andanycompasses.Typicallythisdistanceshouldbeatleast
1m(3ft)inalldirections.Howeverforsomesmallervessels
itmaynotbepossibletolocatethedisplaythisfarawayfrom
acompass.Inthissituation,thefollowingguresprovidethe
minimumsafedistancethatshouldbemaintainedbetweenthe
displayandanycompasses.
