TR-069 (Technical Report 069) is a DSL Forum (which was later renamed as Broadband
Forum) technical specification entitled CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP). It
defines an application layer protocol for remote management of end-user devices. It
provides the communication between Customer-premises Equipment (CPE) and Auto
Configuration Server (ACS). TR-069 uses common transport mechanisms (HTTP and
HTTPS) for communication with CPE. The HTTP(S) messages contain XML-RPC methods
defined in the standard for configuration and management of the device.

The TR-069 is intended to support a variety of functionalities to manage a collection of
CPEs, including the following primary capabilities:
Auto-configuration and dynamic service provisioning
Software or firmware image management
Status and performance monitoring
Diagnostics
