Installing connecting rods - pistons
The piston rings are different and are assembled
with the "R" or "KDN5" markings (for the upper
one) and "RN" (for the lower one) upwards. The
upper band can be of different types according to
the piston type used.
Pistons that have a "W" on their crown next to the
selection marking (A or B), are assembled on an
upper band different from that of the pistons that
do not have this marking. The band mentioned be-
fore is identified with a "KDN 5" marking that must
be facing up during assembly.
CAUTION
THE TWO BANDS ("R" AND "KDN5") ARE NOT INTER-
CHANGEABLE, PISTONS WITH A "W" MARKING HAVE A
DEEPER SEAT FOR THE FIRST BAND. THEREFORE THEY
CANNOT BE SWAPPED.
The five ring gaps (two piston rings, two oil scraper
rings, one oil scraper spring) are fitted displaced
90º to each other, starting from the exhaust-side
stud bolt opposite the chain and continuing clock-
wise.
The assembled pistons include two selections A
and B. They must therefore be coupled with the
cylinder according to the selection of the latter
which is marked on the top semi-basement.
