IP filter
A software which allows you to make a setting to allow accesses made from the
specified port/address only and to reject others in an easy manner.
Microsoft DS (Microsoft Directory Service)
The protocol used for “Direct Hosting SMB (Sever Message Block) Service” where
files and printers can be shared without using NetBIOS for Windows 2000 and other
Windows OSs released after that.
It is used for sharing files between computers connected to the same LAN or for
accessing to servers, and is characteristic for enabling the users to share not only data
but also equipments such as printers, etc.
Metric
The standard used by the router in order to select the optimum route from among
several different routes.
NBT(NetBIOS over TCP/IP)
A protocol which enables NetBIOS, which is a protocol unique for the Windows
network, to be used upon the TCP/IP, too.
NTP (Network Time Protocol)
NTP is a protocol for the network-connected equipments to synchronize their internal
clocks with the correct time. The NTP protocol uses Universal Time Coordinated
(UTC).
For the equipments connected to the network and exchange data with each other, if the
internal clock for each equipment (RTC) varies according to each equipment, failures
may occur to data exchanges depending on the time such as sending/receiving E-mails s
or files, or delivering logs; therefore, it is necessary to synchronize the RTC time
between the equipments.
PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol)
An encrypted communication protocol proposed by Microsoft which sends/receives
information between 2 computers by encrypting the information.
Quick Time
A software developed by Apple which records and plays videos upon the PCs.
