The primary source of troubleshooting information will be the S/140 Manual, however additional information is
available as follows:
INITIAL CHECKOUT OF COMPUTER OPERATION:
Refer to Chapter 4 - Functional Checks of the CT 9800 Quick System Manual (Direction 18000).
POWER-UP SELF TEST:
The power-up sequence and self test results are described in the S/140 Manual Volume #1, Part 1, Section 1.4,
and in Part 2, Chapter 5.
VIRTUAL FRONT CONSOLE:
Virtual Front Console operation is described in the S/140 Manual Volume #1, Part 1, Section 1.5
ERROR CODES:
System error codes are described in Section 4 of this manual.
TROUBLESHOOTING FLOW CHART:
A trouble-shooting flowchart is contained in the S/140 Manual Volume #1, Part 1, Section 1.6.
DG TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE:
Data General’s troubleshooting guide is part of their Field Engineers Maintenance Manual located in the
S/140 Manual Volume #1, Part 2, Chapters 3 thru 8.
JUMPER CONFIGURATIONS:
Normal jumper locations for each S/140 board are located in front of the schematics for that board.
SCHEMATICS:
The schematics for the S/140 boards are in the S/140 Manual Volume #1. The PPI schematics are in the PPI
Manual (Dir. 14712). The I/O and controller board schematics are typically with the peripheral they control, for
example, the schematic for the Mag Tape Controller is in the 6026 Mag Tape manual.
DIAGNOSTICS:
A troubleshooting guide using DTOS diagnostics is contained in Data General’s Field Engineers Maintenance
Manual in the S/140 Manual Volume 1, Part 2, Chapter 7. Note that the callable names of the diagnostics are not
necessarily the same as those used on GE’s DTOS tape. If in doubt, match the 096- number of the diagnostic in
the F.E. Maintenance Manual to the 096- or 097- number in the program listing in the DTOS manual.
