3-4 Initial Mag Tape Check (Continued)
The tape should start moving forward. To stop tape movement, go to the S/140 front console, hold the
UNLOCK switch, and press the RESET switch. The tape should stop moving and the Virtual Console
prompt (!) should reappear on the terminal.
To rewind the tape, load 10 into Accumulator 0 and restart this 2-line program at location 100 as follows:
! 0A 000030 10

The tape may be moved forward again by loading 30 into Accumulator 0 and restarting the program as
follows:
! 0A 000010 30
’LF’
! 100R

4. Remove scratch tape.
a. At the tape drive control panel, press RESET to take the drive OFF-LINE. Verify that the ON-LINE and
READY LEDs both go out.
b. If the tape is not at the BOT marker (BOT LED is not lit), press the BOT switch and the tape will rewind to
the BOT marker.
c. When the tape is at BOT, press and hold the UNLOAD switch down until the tape has completely
rewound onto the supply reel.
d. Dismount the scratch tape.
3-5 Initial ZEBRA Disk Drive Check
IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO TURN OFF THE ODD (optical disk) and THE MDD (OD magnetic disk)
prior to executing and dg diagnostics or exercizers. These programs will write
data to and destroy the content of the Optical disk media or the MDD.
This section assumes that all shipping brackets were removed during installation, and power phasing was
checked during the power supply checks earlier in this section. Dual Drive systems can perform this section on
both Drives concurrent. Both Drives must be READY when program is initiated. Testing is not simultaneous,
Drive 0 is run first then Drive 1 before completion message is printed.
1. Load scratch pack
a. Locate the scratch pack. Do not use the system operating pack.
b. Be careful not to touch any of the disk surfaces, remove the bottom cover, and mount pack on spindle.
c. Turn handle clockwise until it stops and carefully lift cover straight up off the pack.
