3-4 Initial Mag Tape Check
If a malfunction is found in the course of this check-out procedure, refer to the troubleshooting section of DG’s
6026 Maintenance Manual, which can be found in the 6026 Mag Tape Manual, Part 4.
1. Power-up
a. Turn ON the POWER switch on the Mag Tape control panel, as shown in Illustration 4-3-10.

b. Verify that the POWER LED lights next to the POWER switch.
c. Verify that, with the DENSITY switch in the HIGH position, the DENSITY LED is lit.
d. Verify that with no tape mounted on the lower (supply) reel, the WRITE LOCK LED is lit.
e. Mount a tape with the yellow write enable ring installed, and verify that the WRITE LOCK LED goes out.
2. Mount and load scratch tape.
a. Mount a scratch tape with a yellow write-enable ring installed on the supply reel and verify that the tape
seats firmly on the hub when locked into place.
b. Thread the tape as shown on the front of the drive and press the BOT switch on the control panel. Verify
that a loop of tape is sucked into each of the two vacuum columns, and the tape advances to the BOT
(beginning of tape) marker. The BOT LED should light when the tape stops moving at BOT.
