6 Cleaners and washing fluids
6.1 Quality of the approved cleaners
From a safety point of view, cleaners for manual
cleaning and for the automatic washup devices must
meet the specifications of the standard pr EN 1010-2
”Safety of Machinery – Safety requirements for the
design and construction of printing and paper-con-
verting machines”, i.e. they must meet the following
criterion:
D Flash point > 55 °C
Furthermore, the Employers’ Liability Insurance As-
sociation demands that cleaners meet the following
requirements:
D Benzene percentage < 0.1 %
D Toluene-xylene content < 1 %
D Aromatics content (> C
9
) < 1 %
D Solutions free from chlorinated hydrocarbon,
CFC, terpenes, n-hexane, secondary amines
and amides
D Solutions free from other substances, which
might constitute a risk to health.
These requirements are met by the approved clean-
ers
D of the Graphic Technology Research Associa-
tion (FOGRA),
D of the list of ”Cleaners for program-controlled
washup devices” by Heidelberg.
