OPERATION

STARTING THE ENGINE IN COLD WEATHER
To start the engine in cold weather or in extremely cold climates, the
following procedures should be used:
Be sure the directional control lever is in a neutral position. The engine
will not start with the directional control lever in forward or reverse.
Be sure the throttle control is set at a low idle speed.
Turn the key to the preheat position. The preheat time is determined by
the outside temperatures.
Once the preheat indicator goes out you are ready to crank the engine.
With the accelerator depressed half way, or fully depressed in extremely
cold weather, crank the engine until it starts. Do not pump the accelera-
tor pedal.
When the engine starts, release the key and accelerator pedal, the switch
will return to the “I” position automatically
With the engine now running, check all the gauges and warning indica-
tors. Be sure the system is operating normal and you allow the engine
and hydraulic system time to warm up before starting work.
Remark
If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, release the
ignition switch and wait for 30 seconds before trying again. If
it will not start, do not continue to crank the engine, damage
to the starter may result. Contact your Komatsu Dealer for
repairs.
Do not use any starting fluids or ether based product to aid
in the starting of the engine. These products may cause
explosion, damaging the engine or causing injury.
