9.20Changing the glass fiber yarn filling of the main silencer x
Warning
Danger of burns The exhaust system gets very hot when the vehicle is driven.
– Allow the exhaust system to cool down. Do not touch hot components.

Over a period, the fibers of the insulating material vanish into the air, and the silencer "burns out".
Not only is the noise level higher, the performance characteristic changes.
– Remove the main silencer. ( p. 45)

– Drill out all rivets on the main silencer and remove the steel bands. Carefully ham-
mer the rivets inward.
– Remove locking cap and outer tube .
– Pull the glass fiber yarn filling from inner tube .
– Clean the parts that are to be reinstalled.
– Wind adhesive tape around the end of the inner tube.
– Mount the new glass fiber yarn filling on the inner tube.
– Remove the adhesive tape from the inner tube.
– Slide the outer tube over the glass fiber yarn filling.
– Insert the locking cap into the outer tube.
– Position the steel bands and mount the rivets.
– Install the main silencer. ( p. 45)
9.21Removing the trim

– Detach the plug-in connectors on the turn signal cables.
– Open quick releases .
– Remove the trim toward the front.
9.22Mounting the trim

– Attach the trim to guides .

When positioning the trim, exercise caution with counterpieces of the
quick releases to ensure that you do not damage the trim.
