5.5 Air filter
NOTICE
Possible equipment damage. The filter cartridge will be damaged if it is
washed or brushed out.
Keep in mind the following to avoid premature engine wear:
Do not clean the filter cartridge
Replace the filter cartridge according to the maintenance plan
Never reuse a damaged filter cartridge
Ensure cleanliness when replacing the filter cartridge!
Replace the air filter as indicated in the maintenance plan or if fouling indicator A drops to
“Service”!
Important!
For applications in especially dusty environment, the air filter is fitted with an extra
secondary filter C (Fig. 112, page 5-14). Do not clean secondary filter C.
NOTICE
Filter cartridge degradation. Filter cartridges degrade prematurely in environ-
ments with acidic air, such as acid production facilities, steel and aluminium
mills, chemical plants, and other non-ferrous metal plants.
Replace primary filter B and secondary filter C after no more than 50 ser-
vice hours in acidic air.
General instructions for air filter maintenance:
Store filters in their original packaging and in a dry place
Do not knock the filter against other objects as you install it
Check air filter attachments, air intake hoses and air filters for damage, and immedi-
ately repair or replace if necessary
Check the screws at the induction manifold and the clamps for tightness
Check the function of the dust valve, replace if necessary
Replacing the filter
Replace primary filter B
as follows:
Stop the engine.
Remove the key and carry it with you.
Let the engine cool down.
Open the engine cover.
Remove dirt and dust from the air filter and the area around the air filter.
Rotate the filter end housing E (Fig. 111) counter-clockwise to remove it.
Remove lower housing section E.
Carefully remove primary filter B with slightly turning movements.
Make sure all dirt (dust) inside the upper and lower housing sections (F and E), includ-
ing dust ejection valve G, has been removed.
