A. Pin configurations
A.1 About General Purpose Inputs & Outputs (GPIO)
The Barco Cinema Controller and the Barco ICMP are equipped with GPIO ports. The electric al specifications
described in this chapter are t he same for both GPIO ports.
General Purpose inputs
The B arco Cinema Controller and the Barco ICMP have each eight (8) opto-isolated general p urpose inputs available. T hese inputs
are us ed to trigger the execution of macro files. For more explanation about the as sociation of a macro to a G PI, consult the us er
guide of the Comm unicator.
Input voltage
The inputs c an be directly driven from a TTL or CMOS output.
• The s hape of the pulse must be rectangular.
• The duration of the puls e must be at least 50 milliseconds (shorter pulses are considered as a s witch bounce)
• Minimum voltage : V
min
=+5V
• Maximum voltage : V
max
= +18V
External power supply
When interfacing with contact closure outputs, an external power supply needs to be p rovided. Depending upon the configuration a
suitable pull-up res istor needs to be add ed as well.

Cables
When long cable connections are required the use of shielded cables with twisted pairs is recommended. One twisted pair is t o be
assigned to each GP Input pair.
How to make the connection
When the power s upply used to pro vide the DC voltage
is isolated from ground (for example in the case of a n AC adapter) it is
recommended that the minus pole of that power supply is connected to ground (or to the projector chass is). T his will avoid high
common mode vo ltages at the pr ojector G P Inputs. If that sam e power supply is used for other parts of the system, take care not to
create ground loops. In any c ase when shielded
cables are used that shield s hould be c onnected to the projector chassis.
General Purpose outputs
The Barco Cinema C ontroller and the Barco ICMP hav e each eight (8) opto-isolated outputs available. Four (4) of the outputs on
the Cinema Controller are dedicated for TI. The other gener al purpose outputs can be controlled via software.
About an output
The output can gener ate a falling edge, rising edge, toggle or c ontinuous t oggle.
• Generate Falling Edge – generate a falling edge on the external GPO port if the present state of the output is high. If the
present state of the external GP O is low, no edge will be generated.
• Generate Rising Edge – gen erate a r ising edge on the external GPO port if the present state of the output is low. If the present
state of the external GPO is high, no edge will be generated.
• Generate Toggle – generate a toggle on the external GPO port. If the present state of the output is low, a rising edge will be
generated, followed by a falling edge. If the presen t state of the ou tput is high, a falling edge will be generated, followed by a
rising edge. Pulse width = 20 milliseconds.
• Generate Continuous Toggle - This com m and w ill generate a continuous toggle of the external GP O por t. This toggle will
continue u ntil a Generate Falling Edge, G enerate R ising Edge,orGenerate Toggle command is receiv ed. The rate of toggle is
24Hz. .
