Workshop Manual
Smart Tachograph EFAS-4.10/4.11
Chapter 9 Calibration
EU Regulation 165/2014 denes the calibration of the tachograph as an update or conrmation of vehicle parameters, including
the vehicle identication and vehicle characteristics to be stored in the mass memory, by use of the workshop card.
Calibration must be performed following the installation of the EFAS device into the vehicle as part of its activation and also
during its regular inspections. Regular or non-periodic inspections of tachographs ensure the reliability and increase of safety
in freight and passenger trac on the roads.
The tests are used to
y Find out and repairing defects in the Tachograph and its system components.
y Recalibrate to compensate for deviations due to technical reasons.
y Detection of manipulations on the tachograph system.
9.1 Conguration with factory settings
Since an EFAS tachograph is always delivered in its activated state, the device will not record any other data to mass memory in
this state than unauthorized opening of the unit. The legally prescribed vehicle parameters are preset to the following values:

The RDI value is reference number for parameters used internally. Inspection and calibration equipment does not usually display
this value. Instead text is displayed that may however dier from the designation used in this manual.
9 A value of 220 km/h prevents the storage and display of “over-speeding” events. This setting is only permitted for certain types of vehicles.
10 This value may be represented dierently by the inspection/calibration equipment, e.g. 00.00.0000 or 00.00.2000.
