• Connect terminal - of the thermocouple to terminal 2 of the CHARM
Thermocouple/mV Terminal Block.
• Connect the cable shield to a grounding terminal (see Grounding).
CAUTION
Ensure that the thermocouple is always connected with the right polarity. The
thicker line of the thermocouple symbol indicates the minus connection. The thin
line marks the plus connection.

Thermocouple types and their polarity are identified by colors. The different
coloring of thermocouple sheaths and wires are subject to various national
standards. Check the polarity of the thermocouple before connecting it to the
CHARM.
5. Ensure that the cable gland, where the signal cable is led through, is closed to keep
the IP protection class of the AMS Asset Monitor.
6. Continue with the installation or close the door (see Close the AMS Asset Monitor).
5.10 Install the Address Plug
The AMS Asset Monitor is equipped with a dedicated slot for an Address Plug. The Address
Plug is required for proper function of the installed CHARMs.
A CHARM Address Terminal Block is required for the installation. See the documentation
provided with the Address Plug and the Address Terminal Block for further details.
Note
The providing of field power to isolated CHARMs installed in CHARM Fused Injected Power
Terminal Blocks is not supported by a CHARM Address Terminal Block installed in the AMS
Asset Monitor.
Procedure
1. Open the AMS Asset Monitor (see Open the AMS Asset Monitor), if not already
done.
2. Flip down the CHARM labeling component (see Figure 4-3 for location), if there is
one.
3. Hook the CHARM Address Terminal Block into the lower part of the address slot, the
right-most slot (see Figure 5-1), and gently push it in.
The CHARM Address Terminal Block locks with an audible click.
4. Ensure that the latch of the Address Terminal Block is in the open position as shown
in Figure 5-20. If the latch is in the closed position, use a suitable flat-tip screwdriver
to open it.
