18.3 Draining the gear oil x
Warning
Danger of scalding Engine oil and gear oil get very hot when the motorcycle is ridden.
– Wear appropriate protective clothing and safety gloves. In case of burns, rinse immediately with lukewarm water.

Environmental hazard Hazardous substances cause environmental damage.
– Oil, grease, filters, fuel, cleaners, brake fluid, etc., should be disposed of as stipulated in applicable regulations.

Only drain the gear oil while the engine is warm.
Preparatory work
– Park the motorcycle on a level surface.
– Place a suitable container under the engine.

– Remove the gear oil drain plug with magnet 1.
– Remove gear oil drain plug 2.
– Completely drain the gear oil.
– Clean the gear oil drain plug thoroughly.
– Clean the sealing area on the engine.
– Mount the gear oil drain plug with magnet 1 and the seal ring and tighten.
Guideline
Gear oil drain plug with magnet M12x1.5 20 Nm
(14.8 lbf ft)
– Mount gear oil drain plug 2 with the seal ring and tighten.
Guideline
Gear oil drain plug M10x1 15 Nm
(11.1 lbf ft)

– Completely drain the gear oil.
– Clean the gear oil drain plug with the magnet thoroughly.

Info
Too little gear oil or poor-quality oil results in premature wear of the transmission.
