12.12 Removing the lower triple clamp x (SIX DAYS)
Preparatory work
– Raise the motorcycle with the lift stand. ( p. 57)

Remove the front wheel. x ( p. 93)
– Remove the headlight mask with the headlight. ( p. 101)
–
Remove the fork legs. x ( p. 59)
– Remove the front fender. ( p. 67)
– Remove the handlebar cushion.

Main work
– Remove screw 1. Remove screw 2, take off the upper triple clamp with the han-
dlebar, and set it aside.
Info
Protect the motorcycle and its attachments against damage by covering
them.
Do not bend the cables and lines.

– Remove O-ring 3. Remove protective ring 4.
– Take out the lower triple clamp with the steering stem.
– Take out the upper steering head bearing.
12.13 Installing the lower triple clamp x (EXC, XC‑W)

Main work
– Clean the bearing and sealing elements, check for damage, and grease.
High viscosity grease ( p. 142)
– Insert the lower triple clamp with the steering stem. Mount the upper steering head
bearing.
– Check whether the top steering head seal 1 is correctly positioned.
– Push on protective ring 2.

– Position the upper triple clamp with the steering.
– Position the clutch line and wiring harness.
– Mount screw 3 but do not tighten yet.
