28 2 Setting Up the Printer
When Using Windows Me or Windows 98
To use the printer with a USB connection, install the USB print utility first. Then, install the
print driver and set up the USB port. If you print through a parallel connection, you do not
need to install the USB print utility.
Important
• When using a USB port on Windows Me/Windows 98, you cannot install the print driver by using the
Plug & Play function. Install the print driver according to the following procedure. If you installed the print
driver by using the Plug & Play function, and the installation failed, refer to “When you have installed the
print driver by using the Plug & Play function (Windows Me/Windows 98)” (P. 32) and follow the
instructions. Then, install the USB Print Utility and the print driver according to the following procedure
again.
Installing the USB Print Utility
1. If the USB cable is connected, remove it from the computer.
2. Insert the Software Pack CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then open the
CD-ROM drive from your computer.

• If the [Printer Software CD-ROM Menu] dialog box is displayed, click [Exit] in the dialog box to exit the
wizard.
3. Open the [Usb98Me] folder and double-click the [Setup.exe] icon.
4. Click [Next].
The installation starts.
