Draft Document for Review October 18, 2004 5486m595.fm
memory cards with eight GB of memory activated. The maximum memory
capacity depends on the number of processor books ordered for the system and
on the type of memory and functionality required.
Memory placement
The following rules should be followed for Model 595 memory.
򐂰 Minimum memory
Each processor book must have at least two pairs of memory cards (one pair
for each MCM). The recommended minimum memory is shown in the
following table:
򐂰 Memory must be ordered in identical pairs.
򐂰 Each processor book must have a minimum of four memory cards on it.
򐂰 Spread memory across the processor books.
Select memory cards to enable equal memory configurations across
processors in an n-way unit. If memory greater than the minimum is ordered,
select memory features to drive the most number of memory cards onto the
system, as evenly distributed across the processors as possible.
򐂰 Spread existing memory onto the new processor cards in any new processor
and enclosure additions
Memory increments are handled by the IBM marketing configurator
