Models 825, 870, and 890 with On/Off Capacity on Demand features require
Cumulative PTF package C3077520 or later.
When upgrading a Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) model to or within a
newer Model 825, 870, or 890 CUoD model, all interactive (standby)
processors must be activated first.
When upgrading a Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) model to or within a
newer Model 825, 870, or 890 CUoD model, additional OS/400 licenses must
be activated. Additional i5/OS licenses are not required when upgrading to a
larger Model 570 processor feature.
When upgrading from a CUoD Model 825, 830, or 870 to a CUoD Model 520
or 570, CUoD activation is not needed.
Some features have software requirements. Refer to Informational APAR

Capacity on Demand upgrades
Considerations when Capacity on Demand configurations are involved in an
upgrade include:
When upgrading from a Model 830 4/8-way to a Model 870 or 890:
– All eight processors must be active when upgrading
When upgrading from a Model 830 4/8-way, 8/12-way, 12/18-way or
18/24-way to a Model 550, 570, or 595:
– All processor activations are not required
– Discounts apply to the purchase of i5 /OS licenses
When upgrading from a Model 825 3/6-way or 870 5/8-way to a Model 870 or
890:
– All processors must be active and OS/400 processor licenses in place for
all processors before upgrading.
