Chain Free – Movement Inspection
1. Maximum movement position
To inspect the chain free movement:
Park the motorcycle on the side stand.
Rotate the rear wheel to find the
position where the chain is tightest.
Measure the vertical movement of the
chain midway between the sprockets.
Chain Free – Movement Adjustment
The vertical movement of the drive chain
must be in the range 29 - 40 mm.
1. Adjuster clamp bolt
2. C-spanner
3. Eccentric adjuster
To adjust the chain free movement:
Loosen the adjuster clamp bolt.
Using the C-spanner supplied in the tool
kit, turn the rear hub/eccentric adjuster
(clockwise to loosen, anti-clockwise to
tighten) until the drive chain is correctly
adjusted.
Tighten the clamp bolt to 55 Nm.
Repeat the chain adjustment check.
Re-adjust if necessary.
Check the rear brake effectiveness.
Rectify if necessary.
Before starting work, make sure the
motorcycle is stabilised and
adequately supported. This will help
prevent injury to the operator or
damage to the motorcycle.
