Wi-Fi security settings
Usethe Wi-Fi Security Settingspage to specify the wirelesssecurity settingsthat the wirelessnetwork
uses. Multiple security and authentication modesmay be chosen depending on the configuration of
the accesspoint or wirelessnetwork. Thewirelessdevice will automatically select and determine the
authentication and encryption methodsto use while associating to thewirelessnetwork. If the
wirelessnetwork doesnot use security and uses an Open Network architecture, these settingsdo not
need to be modified.
Note that WPAsettingsrequire that the device communicate to Access Pointsand isnot valid when
the Connection Method is set to Connect to wirelesssystemsusing peer-to-peer (ad-hoc). Also,
WPApre-shared key (WPA-PSK) security is only valid when you use a specific Network Name or SSID.

oneWEPkey must be specified in order to useshared key authentication.
l
WEP with 802.1x authentication: UsesIEEE802.1x authentication (EAP) to establish a

keys are dynamically generated to encrypt data over the wirelessnetwork.
l
WPAwith pre-shared key (WPA-PSK): Uses the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) protocol
with a pre-shared key (PSK). ThePSK is calculated using a passphrase and the network
SSID.
l
WPAwith 802.1x authentication: Usesthe WPAprotocol and IEEE802.1x authentication
(EAP) to establish a connection with an authentication server or access point. Encryption
keys are dynamically generated to encrypt data over the wirelesslink.
l
Cisco LEAP: UsesLightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol (LEAP) to establish a
connection with an authentication server or access point. Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
