EIA-422/EIA-485: The serial port uses electrical interface EIA-485. You can usethis modefor
EIA-422 connections. Thisinterface usestwo wires to both transmit and receive data. This
interface also allowsfor multiple transmitters and receiversto be easily connected together.
For EIA-485 mode, there areseveral additional settings:
l
2 wires | 4 wires: Selects the number of differential wires used for communication and
implicitly determinesthe duplex of the connection.
2 wires: The serial port operatesin two-wire mode. This modeis a half-duplex connection
with shared transmit and receive wires.
4 wires: The serial port operatesin four-wire mode. This mode is a full-duplex connection
with independent transmit and receive pairs.
Thedefault is4 wires.
l
Enable termination: Determineswhether termination and biasing resistorsare used
acrossthe lines. If enabled, termination and biasing resistorsare enabled acrossthe lines.
Enable termination if the terminal/server port isan endpoint node on the 485 network. Use
biasing in at least one unit in a two-wire environment. If disabled, termination and biasing
resistors are disabled acrossthe lines. The default isdisabled.
Advanced serial settings
UseAdvanced Serial Settingsto configure theserial interfaceand the access to the serial interface.
Thedefault settings work in most situations.
Serial settings
n
Enable Port Logging: Port logging allows you to save serial data to the memory of the Digi
device server. Once enabled, the port log can be viewed by selecting Port Logson the Serial
Port Management page (Management >Serial Ports). Port Logging isenabled in the CLI via
the set buffer command.
n
Log Size: The size in kilobytesof the memory buffer used to save serial data when port logging
isenabled.
n
Automatic backup: The port data isstored to specified location automatically.
n
Unlimited automatic backup size: When enabled, the automatic backup size is not limited.
n
Automatic backup size: Thisoption definesthe amount of thelog to backup at a time.
n
Enable SYSLOGservice: Theport data can be stored to theSYSLOGserver in addition to the
port log storage location at the same time.
n
Enable RTS Toggle: When enabled, the Digi device assertsRTS(Request To Send) when
sending data on the serial port.
