6.2.2 Setting of homing
Homing
By means of homing, the zero position is defined within the physically possible traversing
range of the machine. Thus, the reference of the measuring systems to the machine is
established.

The zero position (home position) can be defined by homing or by setting a reference:
ƒ When homing, the drive travels in a mode defined before (Homing Mode) to detect
the zero position independently and in a reproducible way. The homing mode can
preferably be executed with the homing function implemented in the ECS Motion.
Homing modes for various application tasks are selectable.
ƒ Optionally, homing can also be executed via the functionality of the higher−level
motion control if required. The ECS Motion is then operated in the "Interpolated
Position Mode" and controlled via higher−level control until the home position has
been reached. At the end, the "Reference setting" function is executed. When the
reference is set, the current position is defined as zero position (reference).
