Selector lever
Introduction
AUTOTRONIC is an electronically controlled,
continuously variable automatic transmis-
sion. The transmission ratio is changed con-
tinuously. This enables it to be ideally adapted
to your individual driving style and to provide
increased driving comfort.

If you have selected one-touch gearshifting or
selector lever position D, you can see the cur-
rently engaged gear in the multifunction dis-
play.
You can influence the AUTOTRONIC trans-
mission ratio when the transmission is in
position D by changing gear yourself.
Transmission positions
B
Park position
Prevents the vehicle from rolling
away when stopped. Do not shift
the transmission into position
P(Y page 127) unless the vehicle
is stationary.
The key can only be removed if the
transmission is in position P. If the
key is removed from the ignition
lock, the selector lever is locked.
C
Reverse gear
Only shift the transmission to R
when the vehicle is stationary.
A
Neutral
No power is transmitted from the
engine to the drive wheels.
Releasing the brakes will allow you
to move the vehicle freely, e.g. to
push it or tow it.
If ESP
®
is deactivated or faulty:
only shift the transmission to posi-
tion N if the vehicle is in danger of
skidding, e.g. on icy roads.

Rolling in neutral N can lead to
damage to the transmission.

Drive
The transmission selects the opti-
mum gear ratio automatically for
forward mode.
