Locking the vehicle
Introduction
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
key, you can lock it by taking the following
steps. If the vehicle central locking is mal-
functioning, you cannot lock the tailgate.
5-door vehicle

Close the front-passenger door, the rear
door on the front-passenger side and the
tailgate.
X
Open the driver’s door and the rear door on
the driver’s side.
X
Press the locking button on the driver’s
door (Y page 64).
The locking knobs in the front-passenger
door and in the rear doors drop down.

Press down the locking knobs in the front-
passenger and rear doors manually, if nec-
essary.
X
Close the driver's door from the outside.
X
Press down the locking knob of the driver's
door by reaching in through the open rear
door.

Make sure that you have the key on your
person and that it has not been left in the
vehicle.

Close the rear door on the driver’s side.
X
Make sure that the doors and the tailgate
are locked.
3-door vehicle

Close the front-passenger door.
X
Open the driver's door and the tailgate.
X
Press the locking button on the driver’s
door (Y page 64).
The locking knob in the front-passenger
door drops down.

Press down the locking knob manually, if
necessary.
X
Close the driver's door from the outside.
X
Reach through from the open tailgate and
press down the locking knob of the driver's
door.

Make sure that you have the key on your
person and that it has not been left in the
vehicle.

Close the tailgate.
X
Make sure that the doors and the tailgate
are locked.
Luggage compartment
Important safety notes
Do not leave the key in the luggage compart-
ment.You could otherwise lock yourself out.

Risk of poisoning
If the engine is runningand the tailgate is
open, exhaustgases can enter the vehicle
interior. This could result in poisoning. There-
fore, make sure that thetailgate is always
closed when the engine is running.

The tailgate swings upwards and to the
rear when opened. Therefore, make sure
that there is sufficient clearance above and
behind the tailgate.
